Bhaktiben-Hasmukhbhai Residence, Ahmedabad 1968 -1969
In the case of his own house, the architect had to bring about a synthesis of the requirements of a Gujarati household and aesthetics which would appeal to the residents of the house.
The house was planned on two levels, with the living/dining area on the ground floor, and the bedrooms at approximately 2-metre level, in order to have a large garden area. All activities have been centered on a large back garden which can be approached through a deep verandah, facing south. Another highlight of this design is the achievement of minimal circulation and the clever use of smaller spaces for domestic activities and storage. Simplicity in design and rigor in detailing has strengthened the overall concept.
