Canna Mukesh Residence, Ahmedabad 2003 -2005

Hasmukh Patel collaborated with Canna, his architect daughter, on the design of this house. She described wanting to incorporate new ideas that would enable her family to maintain patterns of life developed while living abroad. A typical example is the kitchen, which can be opened into the dining room for family cooking and eating. The verandah extends from the living room, low and shaded, as in Patel’s other houses. However, in a new iteration, it projects, jetty-like, into the garden and is open on three sides. Double height windows in the living room are another significant diversion from Patel’s established vocabulary.
