Medical & Social Welfare Centre, Mokasan 1967
This small clinic, located in a village outside Ahmedabad, combined medical facilities with a hostel and a chapel for the order of nuns who ran it. The main functions of the brief have been pulled apart and take simple forms which are organised either orthogonally or diagonally along a linear plan. From the utilitarian courtyard a low opening leads to a narrow, long and viewless corridor. Narrow and high windows glow where wall meets ceiling and draw the eye on towards the chapel. Here a circle of light illuminates the altar with breathtaking simplicity and quietness.
